David Poole - Director of Pooleworks
David is an experienced Executive and Board Director for high-value, complex infrastructure portfolios and the management of large estates. He has infrastructure experience across commercial strategy, procurement, construction, in-service management and PFI initiation/management/conclusion. David’s leadership experience includes strategy, business change and restructuring, and high-complexity stakeholder landscapes.
David’s career has spanned private sector companies, two Civil Service departments and two arms-length bodies, with a career background in investment appraisal, commercial management, and quality-focused service and investment delivery through collaborative supply chain partnerships. Recent experience in delivering commercial and procurement strategies with an emphasis on sustainability and social value objectives.
David has extensive experience in supply chain strategy, public procurement, commercial management, business improvement and programme management having previously worked in a number of private sector businesses across aerospace, automotive and FMCG packaging sectors.
Prior to starting Pooleworks most recently David was a member of the Defence Commercial Board and Commercial Director for Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
David led DIO’s focus on building sustainable infrastructure making net zero goals the focal point for DIO’s construction supply chain. He oversaw the implementation of commercial strategies and procurement assessments to drive and promote innovation to increase the pace of change in the built environment.
David was the DIO Wellbeing Champion, and GCF Gender Champion. He also acted as the Business lead for Equality and Diversity in Highways England - establishing change within HE and driving, action and change in the supply chain. Recognised by the National Centre for Diversity with an award for ‘Most Influential Individual’.
Outside of work, David has four grown-up children and one grandchild who live in various parts of the UK. He is a keen road cyclist and has completed many long-distance rides and organised charity rides to raise money for Parkinson’s UK and Stroke Association. David is a qualified rugby coach, a regular skier and mountain walker, a qualified yacht day skipper and owns a VW Campervan with his wife Stephanie.
